It's not a feeling, nor a state of mind. It's a function.
It is the second boss of our brain that is triggered when we are in danger.
It's vital.
Robert Sapolsky** says a sentence that I really like: "For a normal mammal, stress is 3 minutes of terror in the Savannah. Afterwards, either it survives, comes out, it's dead. But in both cases, the stress has dropped back to zero%."
This is when stress remains in control. We never go back down to 0%. Our brain remains on alert for subjective danger, in reaction to fears born during the first 25 years of our lives. This is called our developmental history.
And being on alert all the time is exhausting and damages your health.
It's the psyche. The brain's primary function. It ensures that everything runs smoothly within us. Language, concentration, sleep, nutrition, memory, and so much more. Our psyche must manage these functions 24/7.
But these two bosses are antagonistic.
Yes! It's natural, it's as old as humans, that is to say, a very, very long time.
Yes, that's it! And it's become normal in our society because of the daily stress.
(we are afraid of being late for an appointment, we are afraid of running out of money, we are afraid of having an accident...)
We understand it when some of our functions are impacted, for example,
- we nibble on junk food,
- we sleep badly,
- we are tired,
- we lack motivation,
- we suffer from anxiety attacks,
- we feel like we are hyper-emotional,
- we have chronic pain that can be very disabling,
- we develop skin problems,
- we sit in front of a screen to "clear our heads"
- ….
A whole multitude of symptoms of varying intensity.
Yes, absolutely, we can act on it.
The workshops I offer here at Esprit d'un Moment have this purpose. During each workshop I will provide you with explanations and concrete tools to break the toxic cycle of chronic stress:
- The LCS® * specific back massage for women and the well-being massage for everyone, to alleviate pain and relax.
- LSC®* meditation to learn how to concentrate, breathe by working your diaphragm, relax and know how to cope with daily stress peaks.
- MD therapy to attack chronic stress at its source and understand why it has taken control of our daily lives and how to restore it to the psyche.
There's nothing magical about these workshops, no beliefs or spirituality. Just biology.
And it's because it's organic that it works.
